Lacy Whatley Kennon was an integral member of the ABAC softball team that won the 1991 national championship and finished second in the country in 1992. She compiled a .486 batting average as a sophomore while becoming the career leader in runs scored (161), hits (201), triples (15), and at bats (392). A Chula native, Kennon was used to success before her career as a Fillie after winning three state titles playing at Tift County High School. The 1991 ABAC team went 43-7 and became the first Georgia team to win the NJCAA national title. As a sophomore, Kennon helped lead ABAC to a school record 53 wins. She also excelled in the classroom, winning the prestigious George P. Donaldson Award, presented to the top graduate each semester. To go along with her gaudy numbers on the softball diamond, Kennon had a 3.84 grade point average and went on to earn a degree from Georgia Tech.
