COLUMBUS – The ABAC Stallion men's tennis team scored its first win of the season Saturday in a close 4-3 win over Belmont Abbey from North Carolina.
ABAC won four of the six singles matches which locked up the win. The Stallions lost all three one-set doubles matches. But because the doubles matches provide only one point to the team that wins the most of the three, the success in singles was good enough for the win.
And the win was not without drama. ABAC's Luke Blache and Benjy Ranby-Al, playing at numbers one and five singles respectively, each won a third set tiebreaker to earn their points. Blache beat Jonas Berglund 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 as one point is awarded to the winner of the third set tiebreaker. Ranby-Al defeated Joshua Mayhew 0-6, 6-2, 1-0 to earn his point.
The Stallions also got singles wins from Ryan Nevau (6-4, 6-4) at number four and
Milan Volbert (6-1, 6-2) at number six.
Sunday, the ABAC men's and women's teams will host Cumberland University at 11 a.m. at the ABAC courts.
