MOBILE, Ala. – The Cinderella run came to an end for the ABAC Stallions Friday in the semifinals of the Southern States Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Championship. One day after upsetting third-seeded Tennessee Southern, the sixth-seeded Stallions fell 4-0 to second-seeded Middle Georgia State University.
In the tournament, all matches are called after one team wins four matches. In singles, second-seeded
Luka Blache fell to Dominik Simunovic 6-0, 3-6, 6-2; fifth-seeded
Artur Lovison lost 6-1, 6-3 to Samyak Bajracharya; and sixth-seeded
Matthew Rodgers lost 6-3, 6-2 to Nick Dufner. In the matches that were called before being completed, top-seeded
Ryan Neveu was trailing Middle Georgia's Daniel Garcia Sanchez 6-3, 2-6, 2-1 while ABAC's third seed,
Thibaut Blanchart, was leading his match against Adria Pratdepadua 3-6, 6-3, 1-0. In the final singles match, ABAC's
Benjamin Ranby-Al was trailing Duarte Mestre 6-4, 5-4.
The Knights, ranked 15
th in the country, got their fourth point by winning two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Neveu and Blache lost to Pratdepadua and Garcia Sanchez 6-0 while Blanchart and Rodgers lost to Simunovic and Bajracharya, 6-1. In the third match, ABAC's Ranby-Al and
Maximilian Marquard were leading Neill Pillai and Dufner 5-3 when the doubles point was decided.
