MILLEDGEVILLE – The ABAC Stallions fell to Georgia College's Bobcats, ranked 35
th among the nation's Division II teams, on Wednesday, 7-0.
The Bobcats are not only talented, as they raised their record to 12-3 on the season, but also experienced. Five of the six players that the Stallions faced are upperclassmen, while ABAC's roster on Wednesday boasted only two juniors and five freshmen.
In singles, top-seeded
Ryan Neveu fell to the Bobcats' Chase Martin 6-3, 6-1, while
Luka Blache lost to Rodrigo Perez Crespo 6-0, 6-3 at number two. Thibault Blanchart lost 6-3, 6-3 to Noe Villen at number three, and
Benjamin Ranby-Al was defeated by Gabe Cizek 6-4, 6-3 at number four. Rounding out the singles play for ABAC was
Artur Lovison at number five (lost to Thomas Brewer 6-1, 7-5) and
Matthew Rodgers at number six (lost to Braxton Wright 6-3, 6-2).
In doubles play, the Stallions came the closest to a win at number three as the team of Rodgers and Blanchart lost to Villen and Wright, 7-6 (7-3 in the tiebreaker). At number one, Neveu and Blache fell to Crespo and Martin 6-0, while Ranby-Al and Lovison lost to Brewer and Cizek 6-1 at number two.
The Stallions return to the road Friday as they travel to Lawrenceville to take on the nation's number one NAIA men's team in Georgia Gwinnett. ABAC will be back at home Saturday to face Oxford College from Emory at 1 p.m., and that will be the Stallions' final tune-up before next week's Southern States Athletic Conference tournament. That event will be held Wednesday through Sunday (April 16-20) at the Mobile Tennis Center in Alabama.
