Stallions 24th in latest NAIA Baseball Top 25 Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Stallions baseball team jumped into the NAIA Baseball Top 25 Poll Wednesday. In the second regular season poll released by the league, the Stallions are No. 24.

The NAIA's first regular season poll, released two weeks ago, had ABAC receiving votes.

Now 21-8 and on a six-game winning streak, the Stallions received 105 votes, nine below No. 23 Doane. In the previous poll, ABAC had earned 10 votes from pollsters.

LSU Shreveport remained No. 1 in the rankings, with Georgia Gwinnett at No. 2.

Southern States Athletic Conference rival William Carey (19-9) jumped to No. 13 after being ranked 15th two weeks ago. Loyola, No. 9 when the Stallions won two of three games in the series, fell to No. 18. The Wolf Pack are 20-9 for the year.

Fellow SSAC team Faulkner dropped out of the rankings after being 13th. Faulkner is 14-10.

Voting in the NAIA poll is done by a panel of head coaches representing each conference. The next poll will be announced April 1.

The Stallions lead the SSAC in overall wins and are tied with William Carey with a 6-3 conference mark.

As a team, ABAC has the SSAC's best ERA (3.96), despite having thrown the most innings. Their batters have the best average at .319 and slugging percentage at .520. They also have 34 homers, six better than Brewton-Parker, and are 29 better than William Carey to lead in extra-base hits.

ABAC heads to Thomas University for a Friday doubleheader with the Night Hawks. The third game is slated for Saturday afternoon.

Next on the home schedule is a non-conference game Tuesday, March 24 with Middle Georgia, and a three-game home series with Faulkner beginning March 27.

A big game will take place March 31 at No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett College.
