All five of ABAC's spring athletics teams will be in action this week and most of their games will be away from campus.
The lone exception is the Fillies softball team, which will host four games this week at home. Coach
Mike Reed's team will host a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at 4 & 6 p.m. against Division II Albany State University. The Fillies will return home Saturday to face Southern States Athletic Conference rival Faulkner at 2 & 4 p.m.
Last weekend, ABAC split a pair of games with Blue Mountain Christian on Friday before dropping two games to, and most of their games will be played , and most of their games will be played Tennessee Southern on Saturday. The Fillies are now 7-17 overall and 5-11 in the SSAC. Currently in ninth place in the league, they still have conference doubleheaders remaining against 10
th-place Point University, seventh-place Brewton-Parker, first-place Middle Georgia, and second-place Thomas University before the conference tournament in Decatur, Ala., on May 1-3.
Coach Blake Williams's baseball Stallions saw their five-game winning streak come to an end as they lost two of three games to Middle Georgia State over the weekend. ABAC is now 22-11 overall and in fourth place in the SSAC at 12-9. The Stallions will hit the road this weekend for a series in Pulaski, Tenn., against the Tennessee Southern Firehawks, who are in last place in the league standings.
At the end of the regular season, the top eight teams will advance to the SSAC tournament in Jackson, Tenn., on April 30-May 3. ABAC only has two conference series remaining – at ninth-place Point University on April 11-12 and at home against seventh-place Thomas University on April 25-26.
ABAC men's and women's tennis teams were scheduled to play Tennessee Southern in Dalton Monday, but expected bad weather moved those matches to Wednesday. Last weekend, Coach
Matt Rogel's Stallions fell to Loyola (La.) 7-0 and to William Carey 6-1, while the Fillies lost to Loyola and William Carey, both by 7-0 scores. After the matchup with Tennessee Southern, both men's and women's teams will return to Montgomery, Ala., this weekend when they face two more league rivals, playing Blue Mountain Christian on Friday and the University of Mobile on Saturday.
Finally, Coach
Sonny Skinner's Stallion golf team returns to action Tuesday and Wednesday in the Spring Swing at Cider tournament in Oxford, Ala. Also competing in the event are host Talladega College, league rival Point University, the University of the Southwest, Miles College, Snead State Community College, and Jefferson State Community College.
