MONTGOMERY, Ala. -
Shakiria Chaney became the first ever Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies basketball player named 1st Team All-Conference Wednesday evening at the Southern States Athletic Conference banquet.
Chaney, a senior from Tifton, led the league in scoring with a 23.1 points per game average. She currently ranks second nationally.
The award comes hours after Chaney scored 23 points as the Fillies won their first ever SSAC tournament game, a 70-66 upset over Thomas University.
Through the first tournament game, Chaney's season averages also included 77% at the free throw line (161-of-208), 7.4 rebounds per game, 61 steals, 27 blocks and 38 assists.
Chaney's award was not the only one won by ABAC at the banquet. Head coach
Charles Wimberly was especially proud of the Sportsmanship Award earned by the Fillies. This is their second consecutive year winning Sportsmanship.
Reese Riddle was named to the SSAC's Champions of Character Team. Riddle is second on ABAC is scoring at 13.4 points per game.Â
