The ABAC baseball and softball teams will return to the road for Southern States Athletic Conference action this week, while the Stallion golf team will take part in a nine-team tournament in Tennessee.
The Stallion baseball team dropped two of three games over the weekend to Loyola University in New Orleans, winning Thursday's opener 4-3 in 10 innings before losing both games of Friday's doubleheader 11-8 and 16-5. ABAC is now 15-7 overall and 7-5 in the SSAC, tied for fourth place with Middle Georgia State.
First baseman Cris Walley continued his stellar play as he hit home runs in each game against Loyola, including a grand slam. The freshman from Inverness, Fla. leads the SSAC with nine home runs, which also ties him for third in the nation among NAIA players. Walley also leads ABAC in RBIs (29), while sophomore shortstop Quinten Rawls leads the team in hits (31), runs scored (25), doubles (6), and triples (2). He also leads the team in stolen bases with 11 and has yet to be thrown out this year.
ABAC will face another of the league's top teams when they travel to Montgomery, Ala. this weekend to face Faulkner. The Eagles are 16-4 overall and 7-2 in league play, tied with Loyola for second place. The teams will play Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. All the games can be seen on the team's YouTube channel at the Faulkner Sports Network.
After a weekend off, the Fillies softball team will make the short trip to Thomasville this weekend to play SSAC rival Thomas University. The Fillies are 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the SSAC while Thomas is 11-10 overall and 2-2 in league play. Friday, the Nighthawks will face Point University in a league doubleheader before hosting ABAC. Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1 p.m. and can be seen on YouTube at Thomas University Athletics.
Sophomore Alli Eidson leads ABAC with a .367 average and is also tops on the team in hits (18), doubles (5), triples (2), and RBIs (15). Tess Rollins and Addison Tyre have each claimed two wins on the mound while Rollins leads the team with a 3.69 earned run average and 17 strikeouts.
The ABAC golf team tied for 7
th among 10 teams in last week's Spring Skyhawk Invitational in Newnan. This week, the Stallions will travel to Kodak, Tenn. as part of a nine-team field in the Island Pointe Intercollegiate. ABAC is the only SSAC team in the tournament and will face seven NAIA schools (The University of Olivet, Georgetown College, Huntington University, Olivet Nazarene University, Indiana Tech, Holy Cross College, and Defiance College, the host school. William Penn University, an NCAA Division III school, will also participate.
Of the players who have participated in all of ABAC's tournaments to date, sophomore Aren Flanders leads the team with a 75.9 per round average.
ABAC tennis teams dropped a pair of matches Friday to conference rival Middle Georgia State, with the men falling 5-2 and the women losing 7-0. Both teams will get an extended break before traveling to Montgomery, Ala. on March 28-29 to play Loyola and William Carey in a pair of conference matches. The Stallions are 1-4 on the year, while the Fillies are 2-2.
On the women's side, Johanne Genestay is 3-2 in singles play, while Kitti Nemeth, Lorena Osi, Eva Swiderek, and Tereza Sikorova have all won two single matches. The doubles team of Genestay and Swiderek has also recorded two wins.
For the Stallions, Benjamin Ranby-Al has won all four of his singles matches this year, while Ryan Neveu and Thibaut Blanchart have won two each.
