GREENVILLE, Ala. - A late run by Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Stallions saw them move up to 8th place after the first 18 holes of the Southern States Athletic Conference golf championship.
ABAC sat at an overall +27, 22 shots behind Blue Mountain Christian. The tournament, being play at Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Cambrian Ridge, is 54 holes.
Stewart Rustin led the charge for the Stallions with a +4 day at the 72-par course. Rustin balanced two birdies over the front 9 with 7 pars over the back 9. He ended the day tied for 18th in the individual standings.
Wheeler Ryan was second among ABAC golfers at +6, going +1 over the back nine.
Aaron Stocks was at +8 with one birdie and
Aren Flanders' score was +9.
Scores from each team's top four golfers count towards the standings.
Jesse Jones was an alternate for ABAC.
Not counting towards the team's scores and playing independently were
Landon Lyon and
Daniel Harkins.
Lyon had a hot start, sinking three birdies over his first six holes en route to a +3 and 11th place in the individual standings.. Harkins, was also at +11, and also with one birdie.
ABAC is eight shots behind 7th-place Faulkner. At the top of the standings Dalton State is a stroke off Blue Mountain's lead. Tennessee Southern and Point were tied for 3rd at +14 and Mobile was 5th at +15.
