Stallions place eighth in SSAC Golf Championship

GREENVILLE, Ala. – The ABAC Stallion golf team finished eighth in its first Southern States Athletic Conference Championship tournament, which wrapped up Thursday at the RTJ Cambrian Ridge Course.
 
The Stallions finished at 51-over-par for the three-day event. Dalton State College, the defending NAIA national champion, won the championship for the third consecutive year and for the ninth time in the last 10 years as the Roadrunners were 10-under-par for the tourney, 25 shots ahead of anyone else in the field. In the individual competition, Faulkner's Rodolphe Cicala was the low medalist at 9-under-par, shooting under par each day of the event. Dalton's first-place team effort was highlighted by Jack Whaley, who set a course record on the final day by shooting a 10-under-par 62.
 
In the team competition, William Carey was second (+15), followed by Point University (+26), Faulkner (+27), Tennessee Southern (+31), Blue Mountain Christian (+38), Loyola (+45), ABAC, the University of Mobile (+70), and Brewton-Parker College (+101).
 
Individually for the Stallions, Stewart Rustin led the way at 2-over-par, tied for eighth place. Also scoring for ABAC was Whit Hayes (+10, 21st), Wheeler Ryan (+15, 29th), Sebastian Gonzalez (+17, tied for 32nd), and Alex Hays (+26, 48th). Rustin's 3-under-par 69 on the second day of the event was the Stallions' lowest round of the championship.
