KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The ABAC golf team is in second place and one shot off the lead after the first round of the Island Pointe Intercollegiate tournament Thursday.
The Stallions carded a team score of 311, 23-over-par at the Island Pointe Country Club. They are one stroke behind Indiana Tech and seven strokes ahead of three schools (Huntingdon, Olivet Nazarene, and Georgetown, Ky.) who are tied for third.
Other teams participating include William Penn (+32), Holy Cross, Ind. (+42), Defiance (+43), Olivet (+44), Holy Cross's B team (+49), William Penn's B team (+61), and Defiance's B team (+86).
On the Individual Player leaderboard, Stallion freshman
Sebastian Gonzalez fired a 1-over-par 73 and is in second place behind Indiana Tech's Spencer Keller, who finished with an impressive 3-under-par 69. The round was Gonzalez's second lowest round in competition this year.
