Stallions fall to Southeastern in regional final

Dylan Davis celebrates his second-inning home run with teammates Thursday.
Box Score LAKELAND, Fla. – The toll of a long week finally caught up to the ABAC Stallions Thursday in the finale of the NAIA National Baseball Tournament Opening Round.

The top-seeded Southeastern Fire ended the Stallions' magical season with a xx-xx win, earning the Fire a berth to the NAIA World Series beginning May 23 in Lewiston, Idaho. The Stallions end the season at
38-16.

"A heck of a run," ABAC head coach Blake Williams said. "We put ourselves in a position to have a chance at it and that's all we can ask. It's been a great year.'

In Friday's finale, the Stallions held a brief lead after Dylan Davis's solo home run in the second put ABAC on top 1-0. Southeastern responded with two in the bottom of the second but ABAC tied it again in the third when Cameron Campbell added a solo shot of his own to tie it 2-2.

From there, the Fire took control and never relinquished it. Southeastern's Cameron Hicks hit a two-run home run and Jxxxx Strom added a solo home run to put the Fire up 5-2. The home team added three more in the fourth and a pair in the fifth for a commanding 10-2 lead.

Still, the resilient Stallion would not go away quietly. Parker Wallace led off getting hit by pitch before Quentin Rawls doubled to put two on with no outs. Cris Walley grounded out to second to score pinch-runner Cooper Scruggs to make it 10-3. One inning later, Davis walked and moved to second on Chason Cash's single. Wallace drove Davis in with a single to left field for the final run of the year.

Cash had two hits to lead ABAC Thursday.
