DECATUR, Ala. – The ABAC Fillies shocked the top-seeded Knights from Middle Georgia with an early 1-0 lead before the Knights got going and ran away to an 8-3 win in the Southern State Athletic Conference tournament. With the loss, ABAC will next play Blue Mountain Christian Friday at 12 p.m. CST. The Fillies opened the tournament with a 3-0 win over the Toppers earlier Friday.
The Fillies jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first when leadoff hitter
Ava Maxwell reached on an MGA error. After moving to second on
Laney McGee's sacrifice bunt, she scored on an
Alli Eidson double down the right field line. A single by
Emma Humphrey put runners on the corners with one out but the Knights' starter Emily Proctor got back-to-back strikeouts to end the threat.
The powerful Knights' lineup was held scoreless for an inning before erupting for five runs in the bottom of the second. Catcher Gabbie Haas had the big hit, a two-run single to left center. The Knights added single runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings before ABAC pushed two more across in the seventh.
Ashley Archibald and
Ava Roland led off with back-to-back singles and
Lexi Metts loaded the bases with another single. Archibald scored on a groundout by Maxwell before McGee drove in a run with single for the final margin.
Addison Tyre took the loss for the Fillies while Middle Georgia's Proctor earned her 22
nd win of the year.
