Box Score DECATUR, Ala. – With a fantastic mix of power hitting and power pitching, the ABAC Fillies won their first-round game in the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament Thursday morning, knocking off Blue Mountain Christian's Toppers 3-0.
The Fillies, seeded ninth in the field, will take on top-seeded Middle Georgia today at 1 p.m. CST.
Freshman
Tess Rollins shined in the shutout win, limiting the Toppers to three hits in the complete-game victory, her ninth of the year. BMC did not get its first hit until the fourth inning but could not manage to score against the talented freshman.
At the plate, ABAC managed only three hits of their own, but two of them provided all of the runs the Fillies needed.
Lexi Metts led off the third inning with a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt before second baseman
Laney McGee blasted a shot over the centerfield fence to give the Fillies a 2-0 lead.
Two batters later, it was freshman
Emma Humphrey's turn as she launched a shot over the left field fence for a solo home run to make it 3-0. It's the second time this season that ABAC has homered twice in a game as
Carter Gore and
Alli Eidson did it in the fourth game of the year against Southeastern. But it was the first time the Fillies hit two in one inning and it was enough to gain the win. Humphrey also had ABAC's other hit, a second-inning single.
