NEWNAN – With a final round team score of 388, the ABAC Stallion golf team finished in a tie for 7
th place Tuesday in the Spring Skyhawk Classic held at the Newnan Country Club.
Southeastern University from Lakeland, Fla. and Faulkner University tied for first place, both shooting 28-over-par over the event's three rounds. Webber International was third at +41, followed by Point University (+48), Point's B team (+65), Talladega College (+68), ABAC and SCAD Atlanta (+76), Vincennes (+99), and Lake Sumter Community College (+125).
Aren Flanders, a sophomore from Dublin, led ABAC by finishing at 16-over-par, tying him for 19
th place in the tourney. Also scoring for the Stallions were
Stewart Rustin and
Sebastian Gonzalez (both at +22, tied for 28
th),
Nicholas Browning (+23, tied for 30
th), and
Wheeler Ryan (+24, tied for 32
nd). Browning had the best score of Tuesday's third round with a score of 75, 3-over-par, including an eagle on the 515-yard par-5 18
th hole.
Faulkner's Rodolphe Cicala, the reigning Southern States Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week, won low medalist honors and was the only competitor to finish the event under par at -2.
The Stallions will play again at the Island Point Intercollegiate in Kodak, Tenn. next Thursday and Friday, March 13-14.
