Fillies fall in last 2024 game at Gressette

Box Score     TIFTON - Trailing in nearly every statistical category, Abraham Baldwin's Fillies were their own worst enemy Monday night in an 82-73 loss to Toccoa Falls College at Gressette Gym.

In their home finale for 2024, ABAC turned the ball over 28 times and shot poorly from the field, from 3-point range and from the free throw line. Defensively, the Fillies allowed 23 more points to Toccoa Falls than they did in a 72-59 win in Toccoa less than a month ago.

The difference for the Screaming Eagles was forward Jada Wood, who did not play in the teams' first matchup. Wood, a sophomore from Atlanta, scored 36 points and grabbed 19 rebounds Monday night and hurt the Fillies time and time again near the basket. ABAC's super sophomore Shakiria Chaney had another big night, scoring 28 points and snatching 15 rebounds. But a late run fell short as ABAC tried to rebound from a huge first-half deficit.

Toccoa Falls led 45-33 at halftime and started the third period with a 6-0 run to dig ABAC's hole even deeper. The lead grew as high as 22 before ABAC made a final run in the fourth. Freshman Reese Riddle hit a pair of jumpers and followed them with a free throw to narrow the margin to 72-62 with just under five minutes left. But the Screaming Eagles hit some critical free throws down the stretch. Toccoa shot 19 free throws in the final period, making only 10 but the volume was too much for ABAC to overcome.

Riddle also had a big night, with 24 points.

Now 5-7 on the season, ABAC will hit the road Saturday to play the College of Coastal Georgia at noon.
