Fillies to play Friday after eliminating Point at SSAC softball tournament

DECATUR, Ala. - The Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College kept their playoff hopes going Thursday evening with a 4-2 win over Point University to advance in the Southern States Athletic Conference softball tournament.

ABAC, which dropped an early Thursday game to Mobile, scored three runs in the 1st inning of this elimination game. Point was playing their third Thursday contest, which started with a loss to Thomas University followed by an 11-inning victory to eliminate Brewton-Parker.

Next up for the Fillies is a 1 p.m. EST contest against Blue Mountain Christian. Both teams again need a victory to advance. Should ABAC get the win, they would immediately play again, versus either UT Southern or Faulkner. And if ABAC won that game as well, they would be on the field a third time, versus William Carey or Mobile.

Kendall Fowler's one-out single started the 1st-inning rally against Brewton-Parker. Kinley Snider and Alli Eidson followed with base hits to fill the bases.

Carter Gore doubled to left-center, bringing in Snider Fowler and Snider for a quick 2-0 advantage. Shelby Smith followed by forcing a Point error and Eidson plated to make it 3-0.

Point scored an unearned run in the 3rd. ABAC negated that by adding a run of its own in the bottom of the 5th.

Snider doubled to lead off, but was still there with two outs. Smith came to the rescue with a triple to left. Snider came home and the lead went back to 4-1.

The Skyhawks got another unearned run in the 6th, but Tess Rollins ended the threat by getting Point to foul out. Rollins finished the game with a 1-2-3 7th.

Both Point runs were unearned as Rollins otherwise dominated. She held the Skyhawks to three hits and struck out two on only 86 pitches.

ABAC had 10 hits, two apiece by Snider and Hannah Capps. Gore and Snider hit doubles and Smith contributed a triple.

The Fillies are now 21-25 for the season.
