Box Score 2 TIFTON, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's men's tennis team pulled an upset over NAIA No. 19-ranked Savannah College of Art and Design Saturday. The Stallions beat the Savannah branch of SCAD, 4-3, in matches at the Red Hill Athletic Center.
ABAC won the doubles point over the Hornets, getting a 6-1 win from
Jules Zanarelli and
Luka Blache and one of 6-3 from
Milan Volbert and
Benjamin Ranby-Al. The third doubles match, involving Arthur Lovison and
Cruz Yanez, was only won by SCAD in a tiebreaker.
Blache, Zanerelli and Ranby-Al all won singles matches to give the Stallions the overall victory.
All three won in straight sets. At No. 2 singles, Zanarelli's scores were 6-4, 6-3. Competing at No. 3 singles, Blache won 6-3, 6-4, and at No. 4, Ranby-Al came through with a 6-1, 6-2 score.
Yanez almost won a massive upset over Adam Jaupert, who is currently ranked No. 5 in the ITA NAIA men's singles rankings. Yanez won the first set, 7-5, before Jaupert won the second, 6-1. Jaupert edged Yanez in the super tiebreaker, 10-8.
ABAC travels back to Montgomery, Ala, to face Blue Mountain Tuesday. The regular season ends with three home matches: April 10 against Eastern Florida State; April 12 versus Oxford College of Emory University and April 14 against NCAA Division I Troy University.
Also on Saturday, ABAC's Fillies won one match against SCAD's women, who are No. 7 in the latest NAIA poll.
Chloe Bray won in a super tiebreaker, 10-8, after dropping her first set, then coming back at 7-5.
The Fillies have remaining regular season matches against Blue Mountain and Oxford.
