TIFTON, Ga. - After a tough weekend of softball games, the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies got back on the right track Tuesday with a sweep of visiting Edward Waters University.
The wins included a run-rule. After ABAC took a 5-2 victory in the opener, they needed only 5 innings to take the second contest, 12-1.
Chloe Stone and
Robby Vann each had chances to start Tuesday. Stone went 6 frames of 5-hit ball, with 2 earned runs.
Tess Rollins earned the save. Vann won her 3rd game of the season in the nightcap, allowing only 2 hits and no earned runs while striking out 5.
Lindsey Paul pitched the 5th.
GAME 1
It was low-scoring most of the way until the Fillies took the lead for good with a three-spot in the 5th inning.
Trailing 2-1, ABAC tied the game with a sacrifice fly by
Ansleigh Darby that brought home
Ashley Archibald.
Another out provided another run when
Carter Gore's RBI groundout plated
Kiersten Carter.
Up 3-2, the Fillies made it 4-2 after
Kinley Snider doubled home
Alli Eidson.
ABAC picked up an insurance run in the 6th after Archibald scored on a wild pitch.
The Fillies scored the game's first run, Darby coming around in the 1st on an RBI single by Eidson.
Edward Waters scored both of its runs in the 4th.
Four of the Fillies' 9 hits went for extra bases. Snider doubled twice and Darby and Archibald each had a triple. Snider went 3-for-3 in the game.
GAME 2
The Fillies exploded for 6 runs in the 2nd, then 5 more in the 3rd for a quick 11-0 lead.
Lindsey Paul scored the first run after
Alli Eidson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Carter Gore followed with a two-run double, plating
Ansleigh Darby and
Ashley Archibald. Eidson made it 4-0 by coming home on a wild pitch.
Gore plated on an
Ava Roland single and Paul, who had previously scored a run during the inning, drove in one when she walked with the bases loaded.
Kinley Snider came in for a 6-0 lead.
One frame later, Eidson doubled in
Kiersten Carter and Darby, then came home herself on Gore's double.
It went to 9-0 when Gore sped home on a wild pitch. Paul hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Snider.
Edward Waters scored its lone run in the 4th. The Fillies responded when
Emily Turley scored when
Kendall Fowler hit into a fielder's choice.
Gore went 2-for-2 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Paul and Eidson each drove in 2 runs. Darby had a 2-hit game.
ABAC heads for Brewton-Parker this weekend. They split with the Barons earlier this year. Brewton-Parker is 2-8 in Southern States Athletic Conference games while the Fillies are 3-7.
Following two games at Thomas University April 2, the Fillies will be back home April 10-11 for SSAC games against Faulkner and Point.
