Fillies finish Florida trip with split

Box Score The ABAC Fillies' weekend trip to the Sunshine State yielded one impressive win and a lot of experience for Coach Mike Reed's young squad.

ABAC split a pair of games Saturday with the Warner Royals, winning the opener 8-0 before falling 7-1 in the second game. Friday, ABAC lost a pair to NAIA power Southeastern, falling 5-4 and 13-5.

In Saturday's opener, ABAC took advantage of big innings in the second and fourth frames. Freshman Emma Humphrey led off the second with a single, Ashley Archibald walked and Ridleigh Rowell cleared the bases with a 3-run blast for an early lead.

They added to that lead in the fourth with five more runs thanks to some help from the Royals. Warner committed two errors and had two passed balls along with a wild pitch to combine with four ABAC hits to bring in five more runs and a commanding 8-0 lead.

Meanwhile, freshman Tess Rollins was nearly perfect on the mound, allowing one hit and walking one, paralyzing the Royals at the plate to earn the complete game shutout win, her first as a Filly.

In the second game, Warner returned the favor and raced to an early lead of its own with three runs in the first and three more in the second. The Fire added another in the fourth and limited ABAC's production at the plate until the seventh inning when the Fillies finally dented the scoreboard. Kendall Fowler had a two-out single and Alli Eidson brought her in with an RBI double for the Fillies' lone run.

Freshman Addison Tyre took the loss for ABAC. Eidson led ABAC at the plate with three hits while Fowler added a pair.

On Friday, the Fillies fought back from an early 4-1 deficit in the opener with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning after a two-run home run from Eidson. ABAC tied the game at 4-4 in the fifth when pinch-runner Elli Bryan scored from second on a Southeastern error. But the home team got the winning run in the sixth on Chapel Cunningham's RBI single for the 5-4 decision. Eidson led ABAC with three hits while Ashley Archibald also had a pair of singles. Rollins took the loss in relief of starter Anna Hutchinson.

Friday's second game was not as close as Southeastern jumped ahead with three runs in the bottom of the first before exploding for seven more in the third. ABAC managed single runs in the second and fourth innings before adding three in the fifth before the game was called due to the NAIA run rule. Humphrey had three hits and three RBIs while Archibald added two more hits including a double while driving in a run. Tyre took the loss on the mound.

The Fillies, now 2-4 on the season, will return to the road with a trip to Lawrenceville next weekend to play Lindsey Wilson College and Georgia Gwinnett College. ABAC will play each team Saturday and again on Sunday.
