Box Score TIFTON - It's safe to say that the ABAC Stallions have seen enough of the Dalton State Roadrunners for quite a while.
Due to a scheduling quirk caused by the Georgia snowfall two weeks ago, the Stallion basketball team had a rare "home and home" series with Dalton State in one week. The Roadrunners proved to be just as tough on the road as they were in Dalton Tuesday night and defeated ABAC 114-60 Thursday night at Gressette Gym. Dalton State entered the game ranked 11th in the latest NAIA poll with a 20-3 record and 13-1 in the Southern States Athletic Conference. ABAC falls to 5-15 overall and 1-11 in the league.
The Roadrunners flexed their muscle in every possible way. They shot a blistering 60 percent from the field (50 percent from 3-point range), outrebounded the Stallions 48-30, and turned the ball over only five times. ABAC wsa respectable in that category with 14 turnovers, but Dalton made the Stallions pay nearly each time as the visitors scored 24 points off those 14 miscues.
ABAC managed to keep it close early as
Matthew Mairena's 3-pointer made it 16-15 with 12 minutes to play in the opening half. That's when Dalton got hot and they closed the first half on a 35-9 run for a 51-24 lead.
Xavier Boyd led ABAC with 15 points while Mairnea chipped in 10 to go with 5 assists. The Roadrunners had seven players in double figures, led by Matt Compas's 25.
The Stallions will rest on a rare open Saturday to prepare for three games next week, all on the road. They will face Middle Georgia State Monday, Point University on Thursday, and Life University on Saturday, Feb. 15. Their next home contest will also be against Life on Monday, Feb. 17.
