Box Score TIFTON – The University of Mobile Rams proved Thursday night at Gressette Gym that size and experience is tough combination to beat.
The veteran Rams jumped out early and never looked back in a 98-62 win over ABAC's Stallions. With the win, Mobile moves to 10-4 overall and 4-2 in the Southern States Athletic Conference while ABAC falls to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Mobile brought a roster to Tifton featuring 12 upperclassmen, including seven seniors and one graduate student. That experience was evident as the Rams were precise in their offense, turning the ball over only four times compared to 17 for the young Stallions, who in contrast have eight freshmen and two juniors as their most veteran players.
The Rams also used a tremendous size advantage to dominate inside. Ezra McKenna, a 6-10 senior transfer from the Air Force Academy, had 13 points and 11 rebounds while 6-10 Australian Colin Howells did his damage from the perimeter, dropping four of five 3-point attempts on his way to a game-high 19 points.
ABAC's
T.J. Smith knocked down a 3-pointer to cut Mobile's lead to 16-10 with just under 12 minutes left in the first half. That's when the Rams went on a 16-2 run to take control for good.
Junior guard
Xavier Boyd led a balance Stallion scoring effort with 12 points while Smith and
Matas Aidietis had 11 each and
Nate Mobley had 10.
With Saturday's matchup with Life University indefinitely postponed due to predicted bad weather in the Atlanta area, the Stallions will play again at home next Thursday against Tennessee Southern at 7:30 p.m.
