Stallon defense shines in win over Coastal

Box Score TIFTON – In one of their best defensive efforts on the season, ABAC's Stallions overpowered the visiting Mariners from Coastal Georgia 70-62 Saturday afternoon at Gressette Gym.

Coach Calvin Sinkfield's team made it tough for Coastal at every turn, limiting them to 39 percent shooting from the field, including only 3 of 15 from beyond the arc. ABAC had a double-digit lead late in the first half and kept that cushion for most of the game. Coastal did manage a late run and cut the Stallions' lead to five points with just under three minutes left to play.

But freshman guard T.J. Smith drained a 3-pointer on a feed from point guard Tommie Hall before Nate Mobley scored in the paint, also with an assist from Hall, to quell the comeback.

Smith led the Stallions with 16 points while Hall added 15 to go with four assists and three steals. Guard Matthew Mairena added 14 including three 3-pointers. Coastal's Kaden McArthur led all scorers with 20 points.

The Stallions, now 4-4, will have a week off before traveling to Brewton-Parker for a road conference matchup on Dec. 17.
