ABAC's Fillies basketball team will host LaGrange College in a single game Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the college's Gressette Gym. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
After defeating East Georgia State College's junior varsity 81-80 in an exhibition, the Fillies dropped a pair of games last weekend in the Pensacola Christian Classic. ABAC fell 77-58 to Crowley's Ridge from Arkansas before falling in a nailbiter to Pensacola Christian, 71-69.
Through the first two regular season games, ABAC has been led by sophomore
Shakiria Chaney, a Tift County High School product who is averaging 20.5 points and 10 rebounds per game. Guard
Emily Gamon, a freshman from Miami, has also had a good start to the season, averaging 13 points and leading the team with six assists.Â
The game will be the season opener for the visiting Lady Panthers, who lost 106-26 in an exhibition at Auburn on Oct. 31. LaGrange is a member of the Collegiate Conference of the South, an NCAA Division III conference.
On Saturday, ABAC will host a doubleheader against Beacon College beginning at 2 p.m. The Stallions men's team won two of their three exhibition games (defeating New Rock Prep Academy and Community Christian College while losing to Southeastern Illinois) before opening their regular season with a 60-53 win over Pensacola Christian last Saturday. Freshman guard
Bryce Wimberly from Burke County High led the Stallions against Pensacola with 12 points and 9 rebounds while
Xavier Boyd and
Tommie Hall had 9 each and
Antwann Brown and
T.J. Smith each scored 8.
Beacon College is located in Leesburg, Fla. and is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The Lady Blazers are 1-2 on the season while the Blazers are 0-2.Â
Tickets for Friday's game against LaGrange and Saturday's doubleheader with Beacon College can be purchased at athletics.abac.edu. Tickets purchased before the game are $10 plus tax and children 3-under are admitted for free. All tickets purchased at the door are $15. Season tickets are also available for $80 plus tax and fees.
