THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's softball team needed extra innings, but topped its 2025 win record Thursday as part of a Southern States Athletic Conference split with Thomas University.
A big 10th inning broke up a shutout, and led to the Fillies winning 5-2 in the second game. The opening contest went 3-0 in Thomas' favor.
ABAC is now 15-19 for the season, already one better in the win column than a year ago. Their SSAC mark is 5-9, putting them in 6th place in the conference.Â
The Fillies have a rare quiet weekend, followed by a much busier one. Homecoming weekend sees them host Faulkner University Friday in a doubleheader, with a Saturday doubleheader against Point University, also at home.
GAME 1
The Night Hawks scored once in the 3rd and twice in the 5th. That was all they needed as Thomas' pitching shut down the Fillies.
Ashley Archibald had two hits, both doubles.
Ansleigh Darby began the game with a two-bagger but was unable to score.
Tess Rollins pitched all 6 innings and recorded a strikeout.
GAME 2
Thursday's second game was quiet for the standard 7 innings. Then 8, then 9. Finally, ABAC broke through in the 10th.
Kiersten Carter, running for pitcher
Lindsey Paul, began the frame on second. Carter went to third on
Kendall Fowler's base hit, then Fowler stole second to put two runners in scoring position with no outs.
Ashley Archibald walked to load the bases.
Ansleigh Darby put a ball in play and an error saw Carter score for the game's first run.
Carter Gore singled, scoring Fowler. Archibald took advantage of an error on the play, coming home to make it 3-0.
Emily Turley, who came in to run for Darby, scored on a
Kinley Snider base hit. Snider made it 5-0 on
Shelby Smith's double.
