TIFTON, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College softball continued its solid work against the NAIA's best Friday. The Fillies divided games against Faulkner University, which had received votes in the last national poll.
ABAC won the first game, 8-6, but fell in the second, 6-5.
GAME 1
The Fillies scored first Friday, going up 2-0 in the 1st frame.
Ansleigh Darby started the game by reaching on an error, then making the easy trot around the bases on
Carter Gore's homer to centerfield.
Faulkner tied it in the 3rd, 2-2, then ABAC picked up two more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Kinley Snider doubled in Darby, and
Alli Eidson hit a single to bring home Gore.
The game again tied in the 4th. ABAC got a single run in the 5th to make it 5-4.
Ava Roland singled in Snider for this lead.
Faulkner had two runs in the 6th, but could not hold that lead.Â
Kiersten Carter single in the 6th, then traded places with Darby on a fielder's choice. Gore joined her on the bases with two outs. Snider singled in Darby to tie and
Shelby Smith smacked a two-out single for the go-ahead and insurance runs.
Snider had three hits and Darby and Eidson each had two. Gore, Snider and Smith each picked up two RBIs.
Tess Rollins started in the circle and gave up only two earned runs.
Robby Vann picked up the win after coming on in relief in the 6th.
GAME 2
Two runs in the 2nd, 4th and 6th innings propelled Faulkner to the win in the second contest. ABAC had a single run in the 1st and two in both the 4th and 5th, but could not push across a run late.
Kinley Snider singled in
Ansleigh Darby for a 1-0 lead, but the Fillies soon fell behind 2-1, then 4-1.
In the 4th,
Ashley Archibald forced an error, bringing in
Ava Roland on an unearned run.Â
Shelby Smith walked with the bases loaded in the 5th and
Kendall Fowler scored. Roland hit a sacrifice fly, plating
Olivia Britt.
Lindsey Paul,
Chloe Stone and
Robby Vann all pitched for ABAC.
Shelby Smith had two hits.
