TIFTON, Ga. - One of the fastest games ever of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College softball started Saturday's home doubleheaders for the Fillies against Point University.
ABAC needed barely an hour to win 1-0 over Point. Unfortunately, it was another split for the Fillies, who could not complete a late comeback and fell 6-3 to the Skyhawks.
ABAC will play twice this Friday, April 17, in a crucial Southern States Athletic Conference series against Thomas University. The Fillies also will celebrate Senior Day.
GAME 1
Hannah Capps singled in
Kinley Snider in the 2nd inning Saturday. That was all the runs for both teams.
Point and ABAC combined for six hits, a walk and an error. The pitchers combined for 142 pitches, 82 of them by
Tess Rollins, who won her sixth game of the season.
Snider singled to begin the 2nd, moving up a base on a walk to
Alli Eidson.
Shelby Smith bunted both runners over, setting up Capps' single.
The Fillies had runners at 2nd and 3rd with one out after Capps stole second, but were unable to push across any more runs.
Point began the afternoon with a single. Rollins then set down her next 20 batters in a row before hitting a Skyhawks with a pitch. Point's other hit came with two outs in the 7th, setting up runners at 2nd and 3rd. Rollins got the next hitter to fly out to end the game.
Snider, Eidson, Capps and
Ashley Archibald each had singles.
GAME 2
Point scored three runs in the 3rd inning, and doubled that to a commanding 6-0 advantage in the 7th.
ABAC launched a big comeback in the 7th.
Kinley Snider and
Alli Eidson hit back-to-back triples for the Fillies' first run.
Shelby Smith made it 6-2 by driving in Eidson.
With two outs,
Kiersten Carter walked and
Emily Turley got a base hit to load the bases.
Ansleigh Darby followed with a single to plate Smith.
ABAC had the winning run at the plate, but Point got the last out to hang on.
Lindsey Paul got the start in the circle. None of the three runs she surrendered were earned.
