LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - NAIA No. 2 Georgia Gwinnett College jumped out to a 5-0 lead Tuesday and the hole was too much for the No. 24 Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions to overcome.
ABAC fell by a 10-5 score to the Grizzlies, who entered the afternoon with only three losses on the season.
The Stallions did come close, narrowing the gap to 7-5 in the 7th on
Zack Bowman's two-run single. It was part of a quite impressive day for Bowman, who raised his season to average to .442 on 4-for-4 with a triple and 3 RBIs.
After GGC took the 5-0 lead in the 3rd, ABAC clawed back with two of their own in the 4th.
Chasin Cash doubled down the third base line, bringing in Bowman.
Kam Taylor brought the Stallions to 5-2 on a sacrifice fly, which plated
Cameron Campbell.
The Grizzlies scored a run in the bottom half of the frame and in the 5th. ABAC had a run a well,
Quinten Rawls coming in on the Bowman triple.Â
Both sides had tallied twice in the 7th and the GGC added a final run in the 8th.
Besides Bowman's 4-hit day, Rawls went 2-for-4 and stole 3 bases.
Trypp Lumpkin had Tuesday's start on the mound.
Tre'von Lee and
Owen Lamb pitched in relief.
ABAC goes back on the road Friday at Mobile. The two play a doubleheader Friday and a single game Saturday. All games will be broadcast on Urban Edge Network. Mobile is 8-7 in the Southern States Athletic Conference while the Stallions are 10-5.
