GULF SHORES, Ala. - One day after a pair of losses at the Gulf Shores Invitational, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College won its 7th and 8th games over the year by sweeping Williams Baptist and Central Baptist.
Both were high-scoring, one-run games. The Fillies beat Williams Baptist, 7-6, and Central Baptist by a 13-12 final.
Done with the Invitational, ABAC has three home doubleheaders to open their Southern States Athletic Conference schedule this week.
Tuesday, Brewton-Parker will be for two games, starting at 2 p.m.. Friday, it's Mobile at 1 p.m. for two and Saturday, William Carey comes in for a doubleheader that begins at noon.
WILLIAMS BAPTIST
ABAC had to stave off a late rally by Williams Baptist in the 7th. After going 7-3 in the top half of the frame, the Fillies saw Williams Baptist load the bases with no outs in the bottom half.
Coming on in relief,
Robby Vann traded a runs for an out before Williams Baptist loaded the bases again with two down. The home team singled and scored twice but the Fillies got the runner trying to stretch two bases to end the game.
Emma Humphrey got things going in the 1st with a sac fly to plate
Alli Eidson. It went to 2-0 when
Ava Roland singled in
Carter Gore.
In the 3rd, ABAC made it 3-1 on Gore's double that drove in
Ansleigh Darby. One run came across in the 6th in unearned fashion.
Kinley Snider came around after an initial groundout by
Hannah Capps.
The two 7th inning tallies were by Darby and Eidson, on an Eidson double and Humphrey grounder, respectively.
Tess Rollins earned the win with 6 innings of 5-strikeout ball.
ABAC had 10 hits, 3 by Darby. Humphrey had 3 RBIs. Gore doubled twice.
CENTRAL BAPTIST
Saturday's second game saw the teams combine for 41 hits, 20 by the Fillies.
Central scored 5 in the 2nd, immediately followed by 6 from ABAC. When the Mustangs went ahead 11-7 in the 6th, the Fillies closed out the game by outscoring CBS 6-1 to take it 13-12 in the 8th.
The Mustangs scored one run in the top of the 8th.Â
Robby Vann started the bottom of the 8th on second base and tied the game on
Kiersten Carter's double. Carter became the winning run when
Ansleigh Darby singled.
In all the scoring for both teams, there was only one home run, by
Kinley Snider in the 4th inning. Snider went 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs.
Carter Gore doubled twice and drove in a pair. Darby went 3-for-6 with 3 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Carter scored 3 times and went for 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs.

Vann went 4 innings in the circle to pick up her 2nd win of the year.
