Tennessee Southern walks off late softball win over ABAC

PULASKI, Tenn. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College fell twice Saturday at NAIA No. 24 Tennessee Southern. UTS walked off a 2-1, 8-inning Game 2 after winning 11-2 in the opener.

ABAC is now 11-17 for the year and will host Edward Waters Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader that begins at 2 p.m. The Fillies split with Edward Waters in February in Jacksonville. The loss was EWU's first of the year.

The Fillies hit the road Saturday for a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader at Brewton-Parker that starts at 1 p.m. Next week, they play a conference doubleheader at Thomas University. The next home SSAC series is April 10 against No. 25 Faulkner.

GAME 1

Tennessee Southern scored 9 runs over the 3rd and 4th innings for an early ending.

ABAC had a lead in the contest, scoring both of its runs in the top of the 1st.

Kinley Snider singled in Ansleigh Darby, then an error allowed Hannah Capps to reach and Carter Gore to score.

UTS tied the game in the bottom half of the inning.

The Fillies had 6 hits in the first contest, two by Gore.

Pitchers were Tess Rollins and Robby Vann.

GAME 2

The Fillies had their hearts broken in the second game. A lone run in the 3rd almost stood up, but Tennessee Southern scored in the 7th before walking it off in the 8th.

Hannah Capps scored on a Carter Gore double in the 3rd. Ashley Archibald almost made it a 2-0 lead on the same play, but was thrown out at the plate.

Lindsey Paul faced little trouble over the first six frames Saturday, but a leadoff double had the hosts in business in the 7th. A one-out single tied the game, but ABAC escaped further danger.

Though Tennessee Southern had runners on second and third and one out, Paul got a strikeout, then a groundout to send the game to extra innings.

A one-out single with a runner on third in the 8th ended the game.

Kinley Snider had a pair of hits for the Fillies.

Paul allowed 9 hits in the complete game loss and struck out 2.
