THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College started hitting early against Thomas University Saturday, kept hitting, and then hit some more in winning the rubber match of the series, 9-0.
Trace Hodges and
Drew Hurst held the Night Hawks to 4 hits as the Stallions improved to 23-9 on the year, 8-4 in Southern States Athletic Conference competition.
Though the Stallions went 2-1 against Thomas, they allowed only one earned run over the entire three-game series.
Saturday, Hodges improved to 5-0 on the year with a 4-inning, 4-hit game where he struck out 3. Hurst earned his first save of the year by throwing 4 innings, allowing no hits or walks and striking out 5. The last 12 Night Hawks went down in order.
ABAC put up 2 runs in the 1st frame, a single by
Dylan Davis to plate
Quinten Rawls and a
Chasin Cash base hit scoring
Zack Bowman.
Davis doubled in
Billy Girgis in the 2nd, then ABAC made it 4-0 on a groundout by Cooney that brought home Bowman.
Bowman scored again in the 6th on a Cooney single. The Stallions increased the score to 6-0 after Davis scored on a
Cameron Campbell sacrifice fly.
Davis doubled in Bowman - his fourth run of the day - in the 7th. Campbell singled in Davis and it was 8-0.
Quinten Rawls came in on a passed ball in the 9th.
Bowman went 5-for-5 on the day with 4 runs scored to increase his average to .455 for the year. Davis had 3 hits and Rawls, Campbell, Cash,
Parker Wallace and Girgis each had 2 apiece. ABAC had 19 hits on the day.
Davis drove in 3 and Cooney and Campbell each drove in 2.
ABAC will home Tuesday to play Middle Georgia State at 3 p.m. in a non-conference game. Their next SSAC series is Friday-Saturday against (RV) Faulkner University. There will be a single game Friday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
