HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Friday's Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College-William Carey baseball doubleheader ended in heartbreak as the Crusaders finished a doubleheader sweep on a walk-off grand slam.
William Carey won games by 7-4 and 6-4 scores.
GAME 1
The Stallions briefly held a 2-1 lead, but a three-run 3rd inning turned the game around for the hosts after they had tied it 2-2 in the 2nd. ABAC scored two runs in the 8th.
Both teams had 9 hits, but errors meant one of William Carey's runs were unearned.
Reigh Jordan took his first loss of the year.
Quinten Rawls had 3 hits.
Parker Wallace and
Tre'von Lee each had 2 hits. Lee homered and drove in 2 runs. Joseph Cooney also had a pair of RBIs and homered.
GAME 2
ABAC had a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 7th, but William Carey reversed all of that by loading the bases with one out, then delivering a grand slam.
Single runs in the 2nd and 3rd by the Stallions were met by a two-run 3rd by the Crusaders. ABAC countered with two in the 4th;
Trace Hodges scored on a throwing error and
Cameron Campbell doubled in
Zack Bowman.
Kade Haywood pitched 6 strong innings before William Carey began its comeback. He was lifted in the 7th after the first two men reached base. Haywood allowed 4 earned runs on 6 hits. He struck out 2.
ABAC's first two runs were Hodges plating in the 2nd on
Quinten Rawls' sacrifice fly.
Dylan Davis hit a solo homer in the 3rd.
Davis went 3-for-4 in the second game with the single RBI. Campbell had 2 hits. Hodges scored twice as a courtesy runner.
