HATTIESBURG, Miss. - After two close calls against William Carey, the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions got revenge Saturday with a 6-5 comeback win of their own.
ABAC scored three times in the last two frames to stun the Crusaders. That was not the only part of the comeback. William Carey lead 4-1 after the 3rd and the Stallions scored six unanswered to exit the series on a high note.
Maddux Earls worked an incredible 6 2/3 innings of one-run relief. Earls came in during the 1st inning after starter
Trypp Lumpkin was roughed up. In his longest outing of the year, Earls gave up only 4 hits and struck out 2.
Trace Hodges, who earned the win on the hill, threw 2 shutout innings with only one base hit allowed.
Down 5-0, the Stallions' comeback began with a 3-spot in the 5th.
Tre'von Lee provided the first run when he scored on a single by
Zack Bowman.
Dylan Davis followed in
Quinten Rawls and Bowman.
Both teams had quiet 6th and 7th frames before ABAC pulled to 5-4 in the 8th. Davis struck again, doubling in
Cameron Campbell.
Kam Taylor opened the 9th by earning a pinch-hit walk. An error put Bowman aboard and runners on the corners with none down. They weren't there long as Rawls doubled both in, putting the Stallions ahead at 6-5.
The Crusaders got a hit against Hodges in the bottom of the 9th, but a Lee-Rawls-
Chasin Cash double play finished it up.
Davis led the way with 2 hits and 3 RBIs for ABAC. Rawls drove in 2 and Bowman scored twice.
Next up on the schedule for the Stallions a three-game homestand against Loyola. Friday will be a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
