ABAC baseball stays hot with sweep at Trinity

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Stallions were running free Tuesday, extending their winning streak to six consecutive games with a sweep of Trinity College of Jacksonville in that city.

ABAC, now 21-8 and 7-1 in March, won by scores of 13-4 and 9-5. They return to their Southern States Athletic Conference schedule Friday with a doubleheader at Thomas University beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, they'll wrap the series with Thomas at 1 p.m. The Stallions won a non-conference contest over Thomas earlier this season.

GAME 1

Tre'von Lee got a rare start on the hill for the first contest, though Jeff Hays earned the win by finishing up the 4th inning and pitching the 5th. It was Hays' first credited win of the year.

ABAC never trailed, scoring its initial run in the 1st, then adding three more in the 2nd. Three-spots in the 5th and 7th frames kept the game out of reach for Trinity.

Joe Cooney singled in Zack Bowman for an initial 1-0. After Trinity tied it, the Stallions scored three in the 2nd. They initially regained the lead on a Billy Girgis single that plated Drew Rothschild. Quinten Rawls followed with a two run double to plate Parker Wallace and Girgis.

Cameron Campbell and Rawls hit solo homers in the 3rd and 4th, respectively.

After Trinity added their second run, Cooney came home on a Rothschild base hit. An error brought home Campbell and Rothschild to make it 9-2.

The hosts homered to cut the deficit to 9-4. Campbell countered by doubling in Bowman in the 6th and Dylan Davis hit a three-run shot in the 7th.

Rawls and Davis had 3 RBIs each. It was a 3-hit day for Bowman and Cooney.

Lee had 4 strikeouts of 3 2/3 innings of work. Rowan Blanton pitched 3-hit shutout ball in the 6th and 7th.

GAME 2

Trinity took a 4-3 lead in the 1st inning, but could only muster a single unearned run over the next six frames as ABAC roared to a 9-5 finish.

Trace Hodges recovered in the 2nd after a tough initial inning, then Maddux Earls, Owen Lamb, Drew Hurst and Lalan Ellis combined for 3 hits the rest of the way. Earls earned the "W."

After falling behind 4-3, Quinten Rawls erased that with a two-run home run that brought home Billy Girgis.

Insurance came in the 3rd with two runs: Talan Watson singled in Drew Rothschild and Zack Bowman picked up an RBI on a Girgis tally.

Campbell followed a homer in the first game with another in the second, this good for two runs as Joe Cooney came in.

Trinity scored its final run in the 5th.

ABAC began the day with a three-spot in the 1st, all three runs of Rawls, Bowman and Dylan Davis. Davis tripled in Bowman and Chasin Cash his a sac fly to bring home Davis.
