TIFTON, Ga. - The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies softball team evened their record Saturday afternoon and won their first two games of the season with a doubleheader sweep over Albany State.
The first game was a 10-0, 5-inning 3-hitter for
Tess Rollins. In the finale, the Fillies walked off a 4-3 win in extra innings by
Lexi Metts.
ABAC has a pair of weekend doubleheaders coming up: Feb. 13 at Warner and Feb. 14 at Southeastern (Fla.). The next home games are Feb. 20 versus College of Coastal Georgia.
GAME 1
The Fillies did all their scoring in the 2nd and 3rd innings, making the visitors try two pitchers. It wasn't enough. A combination of hot bats and Rollins' pitching ended the contest early.
ABAC went up 4-0 in the 2nd.
Kendall Fowler singled home
Emma Humphrey to go up 1-0.
Kinley Snider followed with an RBI single to drive home
Ava Roland. Fowler scored on a sacrifice fly by
Hannah Capps and an error made it 4-0 as Snider came home.
One frame later, Fowler drove in Humphrey on a fielder's choice. Snider doubled in Fowler and Rowland and it was 7-0.
Ashley Archibald picked up an RBI when she singled in Snider. Eidson's base hit plated Archibald and
Carter Gore delivered a double, scoring pinch runner
Ansleigh Darby.
Roland and Snider had two hits each. Snider drove home 3 and Fowler, 2.a
Rollins needed a mere 51 pitches to get through the 5 innings. She struck out 5.
GAME 2
ABAC took a 2-0 lead in the first after
Alli Eidson doubled in
Lexi Metts and
Kinley Snider drove in Eidson.
Albany State, having a bit more luck in the batter's box, scored single runs in the 3rd and 5th before taking the lead on a homer in the 7th.
The Fillies tied it up on the bottom half of the 7th with Eidson providing the spark again.Â
Eidson led off with a triple, coming in on a single by
Carter Gore.
ABAC survived the top half of the 8th, not allowing Albany State's automatic runner to score. In their half,
Hannah Capps immediately moved up on a sacrifice bunt by
Ridleigh Rowell.
The Rams got a second out on a strikeout, but Metts came through with a single to win the game.
Lindsey Paul went the distance in the circle to earn the victory. Paul surrendered 3 earned runs while walking 2.
Snider had three hits in the finale, with an RBI. Metts, Eidson and Gore had two hits and an RBI apiece. Eidson scored twice.
