Fillies sweep Albany State in Saturday softball

TIFTON, Ga. - The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies softball team evened their record Saturday afternoon and won their first two games of the season with a doubleheader sweep over Albany State.

The first game was a 10-0, 5-inning 3-hitter for Tess Rollins. In the finale, the Fillies walked off a 4-3 win in extra innings by Lexi Metts.

ABAC has a pair of weekend doubleheaders coming up: Feb. 13 at Warner and Feb. 14 at Southeastern (Fla.). The next home games are Feb. 20 versus College of Coastal Georgia.

GAME 1

The Fillies did all their scoring in the 2nd and 3rd innings, making the visitors try two pitchers. It wasn't enough. A combination of hot bats and Rollins' pitching ended the contest early.

ABAC went up 4-0 in the 2nd.

Kendall Fowler singled home Emma Humphrey to go up 1-0. Kinley Snider followed with an RBI single to drive home Ava Roland. Fowler scored on a sacrifice fly by Hannah Capps and an error made it 4-0 as Snider came home.

One frame later, Fowler drove in Humphrey on a fielder's choice. Snider doubled in Fowler and Rowland and it was 7-0.

Ashley Archibald picked up an RBI when she singled in Snider. Eidson's base hit plated Archibald and Carter Gore delivered a double, scoring pinch runner Ansleigh Darby.

Roland and Snider had two hits each. Snider drove home 3 and Fowler, 2.a

Rollins needed a mere 51 pitches to get through the 5 innings. She struck out 5.

GAME 2

ABAC took a 2-0 lead in the first after Alli Eidson doubled in Lexi Metts and Kinley Snider drove in Eidson.

Albany State, having a bit more luck in the batter's box, scored single runs in the 3rd and 5th before taking the lead on a homer in the 7th.

The Fillies tied it up on the bottom half of the 7th with Eidson providing the spark again.

Eidson led off with a triple, coming in on a single by Carter Gore.

ABAC survived the top half of the 8th, not allowing Albany State's automatic runner to score. In their half, Hannah Capps immediately moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Ridleigh Rowell.

The Rams got a second out on a strikeout, but Metts came through with a single to win the game.

Lindsey Paul went the distance in the circle to earn the victory. Paul surrendered 3 earned runs while walking 2.

Snider had three hits in the finale, with an RBI. Metts, Eidson and Gore had two hits and an RBI apiece. Eidson scored twice.
