Rawls, Cooney both grand as Stallions blast Middle Georgia, 14-2

COCHRAN, Ga. - What is better than one grand slam in a baseball game? The answer for Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Tuesday at Middle Georgia State was two grand slams.

Quinten Rawls hit a slam in the 2nd inning and Joseph Cooney did the same in the 6th and the Stallions shellacked the Knights 14-2 to run their record to 13-5.

Trace Hodges went all 7 innings to win his second of the year. Hodges struck out 8 and walked only 2.

ABAC is now set to open the Southern States Athletic Conference season Friday at William Carey (12-5). The two play a doubleheader Friday and a single game Saturday.

The Stallions scored five runs in the 2nd and five in the 6th.

While grand slams were their main mode of scoring, it was a walk that started things off.

After Drew Rothschild and Cooney began the 2nd with singles, Parker Wallace walked and, with the bases loaded, Tre'von Lee picked up an RBI when he walked.

Rawls then stepped up and delivered the first slam of the afternoon.

One inning later, the Stallions made it 6-0 after loading the bases again on three singles.

Lee hit into a fielder's choice and Rothschild came home on the play.

Middle Georgia scored its two runs in the 5th. The comeback ended there.

In the 6th, Rawls and Cameron Campbell walked, Rawls scoring on a double by Dylan Davis.

Rothschild walked to load the bases and Cooney hit ABAC's second grand slam to made it 11-2.

The Stallions struck for three more in the 7th. Lee, Rawls and Campbell singled. Two scored on Chasin Cash's base hit. Kam Taylor picked up the last RBI of the day on a fielder's choice that brought home Campbell.

ABAC had 15 hits versus Middle Georgia. Cooney went 4-for-4. Both he and Rawls had 4 RBIs. Rawls and Rothschild each scored 3 runs.
