TIFTON, Ga. - The College of Coastal Georgia came up with late runs Friday to win both ends of a doubleheader against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The Mariners earned victories of 7-3 and 8-4.
GAME 1
A four-run 4th inning was key for CCG as both teams tallied three times in the 7th inning.
Hannah Capps and
Kiersten Carter scored on
Shelby Smith's double in the 7th to get the Fillies on the scoreboard.
Ansleigh Darby also doubled in the inning, hers scoring Smith.
Emma Humphrey had two hits for ABAC and Smith drove in two runs.
Tess Rollins and
Robby Vann split pitching duties. Each struck out a hitter.
GAME 2
ABAC rallied for two runs in the bottom of the 7th in the second game, but the Mariners exploded for four runs in the top of the 8th to win.
Trailing by 4-2 in the 7th,
Ava Roland led off with a single. With
Kiersten Carter pinch-running, the Fillies got two-out lightning first in the form of an
Alli Eidson single.
With two on and two out,
Emma Humphrey delivered a pinch-hit single to load the bases.
Kinley Snider doubled in Carter and Eidson to tie the game.
Coastal went ahead 1-0 in the 1st before the Fillies tied in the 3rd on an Eidson single to plate
Ansleigh Darby.
Three runs in the 4th put the Mariners ahead 4-1, with ABAC getting one of those runs back in the 5th.
Carter Gore doubled in Eidson in that frame.
Eidson, Snider and
Shelby Smith all had 2 hits in the second game. Snider drove in a pair and Eidson scored twice.
Chloe Stone gave up a single earned run in three innings of relief.
