Fillies win softball pair over Truett McConnell

TIFTON, Ga. - One day after falling late in two games, the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies made up for it on the softball field with two wins over invading Truett McConnell. ABAC walked off the first game, 4-3, then held on to win the second, 3-2.

This week is a short week for ABAC. The Fillies travel to Edward Waters Tuesday for a pair of games. They won't play again until March 6 in Alabama and the next home game is not until March 10.

GAME 1

Kendall Fowler came home on a wild pitch to win it for ABAC in the opener, the second of two in the inning.

Down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 7th, the Fillies got lead-off hitter Shelby Smith on base, courtesy of a walk. Kinley Fowler doubled her to third.

Smith tied it up on the first wild pitch, with Fowler advancing to third. Fowler then came home on the other wild pitch.

Truett McConnell had a 3-0 lead through three innings. Two crossed for ABAC in the 5th.

Alli Eidson singled in Smith for the Fillies' first run, then Carter Gore came up with a clutch RBI single that plated Ansleigh Darby.

Robby Vann earned her first win of the year with 4 1/3 scoreless relief innings.

Fowler had two hits. Smith scored twice. Each had a double in the game.

GAME 2

This time the Fillies didn't need a comeback. They did have to prevent one, however, when the Bears scored a run in the top of the 7th to pull to 3-2.

Lindsey Paul held on for the complete game win, ending it on a ground ball to second for a fielder's choice.

Paul struck out 3 and allowed a pair of earned runs.

After two scoreless frames, ABAC went up 2-0 in the 3rd.

Carter Gore drove in Ansleigh Darby and Ava Roland reached on an error, plating Alli Eidson.

In the 5th, Edison brought home Emily Turley.

Truett McConnell's other run came in the 4th on a sacrifice fly.

The Fillies were limited to four hits, all singles, but made the most of them. Ridleigh Rowell, Darby, Eidson and Gore accounted for the base hits.
