ABAC Stallions' comeback falls short against Fort Lauderdale

TIFTON, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College missed Saturday's heavy rain, but wind and hot-hitting Fort Lauderdale saw them drop their series finale to the Eagles, 11-9.

The Stallions head for an extended road trip this week: Tuesday at Middle Georgia State and Friday-Saturday in their first Southern States Athletic Conference series of the year at William Carey.

Down six runs going into the bottom of the 9th frame, ABAC almost pulled out the victory.

Chasin Cash led off the 9th with a single, which was followed by an error allowing Dylan Davis to reach.

Kam Taylor drove in Cash with a double, making it 11-6. Drew Rothschild singled in Davis. When Parker Wallace walked to load the bases with one out, the Eagles now faced a serious situation.

Billy Girgis drew a free pass and now it was 11-8. Quinten Rawls' Texas Leaguer infield single plated Rothschild.

Luck ran out there, however. The Stallions hit into a double play and the Eagles left town with a narrow escape.

Two batters into Saturday's contest, UFtL had a 1-0 lead. That's all they had, however, as starting pitcher Trypp Lumpkin rolled a double play to end the inning.

ABAC tied it up in the 2nd inning, a solo home run by Davis to left field.

Fort Lauderdale went up 4-1 in the 4th. The Stallions responded with one tally: Rothschild doubled home Davis.

The score stayed 4-2 until the 7th. Two more Eagles runs crossed and then the visitors came up with five more in the 8th to go ahead 11-3.

ABAC scratched two of their own across int he bottom half.

Rothschild worked a one-out walk, soon to be joined on the basepaths by Joseph Cooney (single) and Zack Bowman (walk).

Quinten Rawls came through in the clutch with two outs, bringing home Rothschild and Cooney on a single.

Both teams struggled on the hill, combining for only two 1-2-3 innings. Lumpkin took the loss for four innings of work, where he struck out 3.

Rawls and Taylor each collected 3 hits. Rawls drove in 2 runs and Rothschild plated 2. Davis scored 3 times.
