Pitching performances boost ABAC bats in Spartanburg Methodist Friday sweep

TIFTON, Ga. - Reigh Jordan tossed 5 2/3 perfect innings Friday and Trypp Lumpkin and Drew Hurst combined for a one-hitter as Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College took a sweep from Spartanburg Methodist College.

The Stallions won Jordan's game 6-3 and the second game by an 11-3 score.

GAME 1

ABAC quickly jumped out in front, courtesy of a 1st-inning Drew Rothschild single that drove in Cameron Campbell. Joseph Cooney followed with a base hit to score Dylan Davis.

The Stallions led 2-0 after one inning, 3-0 after two.

Billy Girgis was run No. 3 when he scored on an error.

In the 6th, ABAC doubled its runs. Quinten Rawls tripled in Girgis; Campbell doubled in Rawls and Chasin Cash's two-bagger plated Campbell.

Meanwhile, Jordan was rolling, allowing no baserunners at all until a solo home run in the top of the 6th. Jordan threw seven frames, giving up only a walk to go with the one hit. He struck out 7.

Owen Lamb and Lalan Ellis finished up on the hill. Each allowed a single hit and Lamb surrendered no runs.

The Stallions had 9 hits total, two each off the bats of Davis and Rothschild.

GAME 2

Like the first game, the Stallions took an early lead. SMC tied it in the 2nd, but Cameron Campbell's two-run homer in the bottom half meant they were never behind.

Drew Rothschild provided the first runs of the nightcap, a two-run double in the 1st scoring Campbell and Quinten Rawls. Dylan Davis made it 3-0 when he came home on Joseph Cooney's groundout.

Courtesy runner Zack Bowman came home on Campbell's blast, which was to right field.

Defense unraveled for the visitors in the 5th, which saw ABAC touch home six times with only one of the runs earned.

Campbell made it 6-3, plating on Rothschild's sacrifice fly. Cooney forced an infield error, scoring Chasin Cash. Billy Girgis doubled with the bases loaded, clearing Bowman, Cooney and Davis. Girgis then brought the score to 11-3, scooting home on a wild pitch.

Lumpkin and Hurst combined for the one hit, though Spartanburg Methodist was able to take advantage of walks for its runs, all scored in the 2nd inning. Lumpkin fanned 3 and Hurst, 1.

Davis had 2 hits for the game. Rothschild drove in 3 runs and Campbell, 2. Campbell scored 3 runs.
