TIFTON, Ga. - The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Stallions dropped their first two games of 2026 Friday night, a pair of one-run contests against visiting Indiana Wesleyan.
GAME 1
The Stallions walloped two more home runs in Friday's Game 1 doubleheader, but the visitors broke through against the bullpen to hand ABAC its first loss at 7-6.
Drew Rothschild hit both homers, part of a 3-hit, 5-RBI day for the third baseman.
Rothschild belted a two-run homer in the 5th inning and added a solo shot in the bottom of the 9th.
Behind another outstanding performance for
Reigh Jordan, the Stallions went up 3-0 in the 2nd inning.
Dylan Davis singled in Zach Bowman before Rothschild doubled in Davis and
Billy Girgis.
Indiana Wesleyan had a solo homer in the 4th, then drew to 3-2 on a sacrifice fly in the 5th.
Rothschild scored Davis on the 5th inning homer to a 5-2 advantage. The visitors got one back on a homer in the 7th before tying it in the 8th.
Landon Ruoff drove in two in the top of the 9th on a double to put the Wildcats ahead at 7-5.
Rothschild homered in the bottom of the 9th. Joseph Cooney put the tying run in scoring position when he reached on a two-base error with one out, but Indiana Wesleyan got a strikeout and a groundout to preserve the win.
Besides Rothschild,
Chasin Cash also had 3 hits and Girgis had 2.
Jordan gave up two earned runs over 6 innings while striking out 5 and walking 2.
Lalan Ellis took the loss for ABAC.
GAME 2
Friday's nightcap was another close one for the Stallions, a 5-4 loss that saw them have the tying run in scoring position in the bottom of the 9th.
Kam Taylor led off the 9th with a single and made his way to third on a sacrifice bunt and groundout but Indiana Wesleyan closed the door there.
ABAC had a 1-0 lead in the 1st after
Drew Rothschild singled in Quintin Rawls, but fell behind 4-1 in the 4th.
Chasin Cash solo homered to pull to 4-2 in the 4th but the visitors added a tally in the 6th.
Cam Campbell singled in Cash in the bottom of the 6th and ABAC further rallied on a Taylor double that plated Joseph Cooney.
ABAC out-hit Indiana Wesleyan, 10-9 behind two hits each from Cash, Cooney, Campbell and Taylor.
Trypp Lumpkin and
Drew Hurst split pitching duties. Lumpkin was tagged for four runs in four innings. Hurst pitched a masterful five innings of relief with no earned runs. Each pitcher struck out four.
