THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Stallions fell Saturday to Thomas University, 77-68, their first basketball contest of 2026.
The Stallions trailed by only six points at halftime - 36-30 - and were only outscored by three in the second half.
P.J. Mathews made a jumper at 15:35 in the second half to put ABAC ahead at 44-43. However, over the next six minutes, Thomas went on an 11-2 run.
Matthew Mairena closed the gap to 61-58 at 3:58 on a jumper in the paint, but ABAC could not build on the momentum. Thomas led 67-58 with 2:11 remaining.
Mairena was the squad's leading scorer at 20 points, making 2 of his 5 three-point attempts and all 8 at the free throw line.
Bryce Wimberly had a double-double for the Stallions at 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Tommie Hall joined the duo in double figures at 10 points. ABAC blocked 7 shots, 3 by Mathews.
ABAC heads to Brewton-Parker Thursday and to Point on Saturday. Both will be doubleheaders with the Fillies. Approximate game times for the men on those dates are 7:30 p.m. for Brewton-Parker and 2 p.m. for Point.
