PULASKI, Tenn. - Second quarter blues struck Thursday for the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies and despite three other close quarters at Tennessee Southern, ABAC fell 80-58 in a Southern States Athletic Conference basketball game.
The Fillies 5-12 for the year, and 2-6 in the SSAC will be back home next week for a Thursday game against Faulkner (5:30 p.m.) and a noon battle with Mobile. The former is currently 7-3 in SSAC play with the latter at 2-7.
ABAC had a trio of scorers in double figures Thursday in
Shakiria Chaney (18 points),
Reese Riddle (15) and
Zamiyah Hosley (10) and were down but 16-14 at the end of the opening frame.
The second quarter, however, changed the game's momentum. In that tough 10-minute stretch, the Fillies were outscored 26-8, making for a 42-22 deficit at intermission.
ABAC bounced back to outscore the Firehawks 18-14 in the third quarter, but could never get closer than 14 points.
Dailey Jefferson pulled down 11 rebounds for the contest. Both Jefferson and Chaney recorded 3 steals apiece and Hosley and Chaney sank three 3-pointers each.
