BRUNSWICK, Ga. - A tough start and end Tuesday contributed to Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College's Fillies stumbling at College of Coastal Georgia in a non-conference basketball game. The final score was 110-71, not quite as explosive as the contest in Tifton, was similarly challenging because of Coastal Georgia's defensive pressure and frequent substitutions.
CCG leaped out to a 32-13 lead over the first 10 minutes. The fourth quarter was 31-15 for the Mariners.
Shakiria Chaney once again led the Fillies in scoring, this time with 26 points. Chaney also dished out 9 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds. She had 2 of ABAC's 5 steals.Â
Reese Riddle added 12 points.
Layla Townsend at
Taylor Frazier came off the bench to score 6 apiece.
Dailey Jefferson led the way in rebounds with 10, all defensive, and had 2 blocks.
The Fillies (5-9, 2-3 in Southern States Athletic Conference play) return home Thursday to take on Loyola (12-2, 4-1 SSAC) at 5:30 p.m. at Gressette Gymnasium. It is a doubleheader with the ABAC and Loyola men.
Loyola will see a matchup between the conference's top two scorers: Chaney (24.3 points per game) and Deniya Thornton (18.4).
Saturday at noon, it's another doubleheader with William Carey (14-0, 5-0). Games start at noon.
