Reese Riddle and
Shakiria Chaney combined for 47 points and the Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College Fillies won their second Southern States Athletic Conference contest Saturday in a 67-61 victory over Point University.
Chaney poured 29 points through the nets and Riddle added 18 more as the Fillies kept Point winless for the season.
Dailey Jefferson pulled down 11 rebounds and 6 points. Riddle and Chaney were nearly as active on the glass; Chaney had 7 boards and Riddle 6. Chaney added 3 steals and a block to her statistics.
The game was tied at 49 heading into the fourth quarter before Point scored the first basket. The score seesawed for a few minutes until the Skyhawks went up by a seemingly commanding 59-54 with 3:32 to go.
Brianna Wimberly scored 10 seconds later to make it 59-56, then at 2:02 Riddle drilled a three-pointer to tie it up. Point took its last lead, 61-59, on free throws with 1:00 left.
Riddle came through in the clutch again with a triple at 0:52 to a 62-61 advantage. Point turned the ball over seconds later, then ABAC got to the free throw line at 0:29 when
Taylor Frazier was fouled on an offensive rebound. Frazier made both for a 64-61 game.
Point had a chance to make it a one-point game but missed a pair of free shots and the ball went to the Fillies. Wimberly iced the game with 9 seconds left with a free throw. When the Skyhawks missed a three, Chaney scored the last points at the stripe.
It was a close game throughout.Â
ABAC led by six points late in the second period, but an 8-0 run by Point over 90 seconds meant the hosts were ahead 31-29 at the break. Point's largest lead was eight points, 48-40, at 3:19. The Fillies finished out the third quarter on a 9-1 run to tie.
The Fillies play a non-conference game Tuesday at the College of Coastal Georgia before home conference contests Thursday at 5:30 p.m. against Loyola and Saturday at noon versus William Carey. The home games are doubleheaders with the Stallions.
