BRUNSWICK – The ABAC Fillies dropped a pair of games to Coastal Georgia, suffering a close 3-2 loss in the opener before falling 10-0 in the second game.
The first game was close throughout as ABAC tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the third inning.
Lexi Metts led off with a walk and moved to second on
Ava Maxwell's sacrifice bunt.
Laney McGee's single to right put runners on the corners and
Alli Eidson grounded into a fielder's choice as Metts raced home to tie the game.
Coastal got that run back in the bottom of the inning on Rylie Smith's solo home run off ABAC's
Tess Rollins, only the third home run allowed by the freshman this year. But again, the Fillies fought back with a run in the fifth. And it was Metts that once again started the rally as she reached base on a Mariner error. Maxwell perfectly placed a bunt down the third base line and McGee's sacrifice bunt placed two runners into scoring position. Eidson delivered again, this time with a sacrifice fly to right field to make it 2-2.
But again, the lead was short-lived as Coastal's Rylee Mills had an RBI double to right center in the bottom of the fifth which proved to be the game-winner.
Rollins went the distance for ABAC, scattering nine hits and striking out two. Maxwell's two hits led ABAC at the plate.
Hits were much harder to come by in the second game as Coastal starter Emilia Clemons pitched a one-hit shutout in a game shortened to five innings. The Mariners led 1-0 after two innings but broke it open with a nine-run third inning, led by Smith's three-run double.
Carter Gore had ABAC's only hit in the game.
Addison Tyre took the pitching loss as she was charged with five of the Mariners' runs.
The Fillies return to Southern States Athletic Conference action Saturday with a doubleheader at Point University in West Point. The games are scheduled for 1 & 3 p.m.
