TIFTON – The ABAC Fillies knocked Division II Albany State 7-1 in the opener of their doubleheader Tuesday before falling 4-1 in the nightcap.
In the first game, the Fillies provided starting pitcher
Tess Rollins with a big cushion early as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning.
Laney McGee started it off with a double to left center and
Alli Eidson followed with a single. A walk to
Emma Humphrey loaded the bases and catcher
Ava Roland made the Lady Rams pay with a two-run single to left for 2-0 lead.
An ASU error allowed
Ashley Archibald to reach base and extend the inning and that mistake proved costly.
Ava Maxwell drew a bases loaded walk before centerfielder
Lexi Metts ended the barrage with a two-run single and a 5-0 lead.
That was more than enough for Rollins, who allowed only three hits and no earned runs in the complete-game win, striking out a season-high six. ASU's only run came in the third when Madi Hurt reached on an error and scored on Romona McLeod's double.
ABAC added two more runs in the sixth when sophomore third baseman
Ashley Archibald blasted her second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left.
In the second game, the Lady Rams' McLeod moved to the pitching mound and limited the Fillies to four hits. ASU took a one-run lead in the top of the first and added another in the third when McLeod helped her own cause with an RBI single. ABAC got that run back in the bottom of the third when first baseman
Carter Gore singled, went to second on a wild pitch, got to third on Roland's sacrifice fly and scored on McLeod's second wild pitch of the inning.
Aside from Gore's single, Eidson, Archibald, and Metts each had hits. Freshman
Chloe Stone took the loss.
The Fillies will be back at home Saturday as they host Faulkner University in a Southern States Athletic Conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
