MOBILE, Ala. – The ABAC Fillies ran into a pair of strong pitchers Friday in a doubleheader loss to the 21
st-ranked Mobile Rams.
Starter Riley Smith and reliever Katelynn Kempton held the Fillies at bay in Game One for a 5-2 win while junior Avery Harrell tossed a one-hit gem in the opener as Mobile won 3-0.
The Rams scored a pair of runs in the first before ABAC cut the lead in half in the top of the second.
Ashley Archibald had a single up the middle and got to second on
Ava Roland's single to left.
Addison Tyre provided the big hit with a double to score Archibald.
Mobile added single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings before ABAC was able to score again. In the fifth, Roland led off with a walk and Tyre singled to get the rally started. Still with no outs,
Bailey Carreker singled to load the bases and
Ava Maxwell singled to score Roland and cut the lead to 5-2. But Kempton came in to get the final two outs and stop the promising rally.
Tyre led ABAC with two hits but got the loss on the mound as she went the distance, allowing four earned runs on eight hits.
In the second game, shortstop
Kendall Fowler had the lone hit for the Fillies … a single in the third. Harrell went the distance for Mobile, striking out six.
Tess Rollins took the loss although she only allowed one earned run and allowed seven hits while striking out four.
Saturday, the Fillies continue their road trip with a pair of games against William Carey University in Hattiesburg, Miss. William Carey, ranked 17
th in this week's NAIA poll, is 19-6 after scoring a pair of shutouts against Point University on Friday.
