HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The ABAC Fillies played one of their best games of the season in Game Two of their Saturday series with 17
th-ranked William Carey, knocking off the Crusaders 9-0. ABAC dropped the first game 10-0.
All of ABAC's runs in Saturday's finale came in a huge second inning. The Fillies started the inning with six consecutive base hits as
Carter Gore,
Ashley Archibald,
Elli Bryan, and
Lexi Metts all drove in runs for a 4-0 lead. After one out,
Laney McGee kept the hit parade going with another RBI single that chased William Carey starter Ryanne Hornsby from the game.
Alli Eidson added another run with a sacrifice fly and, after
Emma Humphrey walked,
Ava Roland blasted a two-run double to left center to make it 8-0. Gore had her second hit of the inning with a single up the middle to score Roland and the nine-run explosion was complete.
That barrage was more than enough for freshman
Tess Rollins, who pitched an absolute gem against one of the hottest offenses in the conference. The freshman from Houston County High School got the complete-game win, allowing three hits and no runs while striking out four over five innings as the game was shortened due to the mercy rule.
Metts and Roland also had two hits each for ABAC, who had 11 in the game.
In the opener, the Fillies were their own worst enemy as five errors led to eight unearned runs for the Crusaders. William Carey scored seven of their 10 runs in the fourth inning when ABAC committed three of the errors coupled with a wild pitch.
ABAC had seven hits with Roland going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Addison Tyre took the loss on the mound, allowing eight hits and seven runs, only two earned.
The Fillies are now 6-14 overall and 4-8 in the SSAC. They will return home next weekend for two conference doubleheaders as they face Blue Mountain Christian Friday at 2 p.m. and Tennessee Southern on Saturday at noon.
