THOMASVILLE – The ABAC Fillies dropped a pair of SSAC games Saturday in a doubleheader loss to Thomas University. A late rally fell short in a 4-3 loss in the opener while the Fillies lost Game Two 8-0 in five innings.
In Game One, ABAC trailed 4-0 entering the seventh and final inning.
Laney McGee led off with a single before
Bailey Carreker was hit by a pitch. Pinch hitter
Carter Gore had a one-out single to center and a throwing error by the Night Hawks allowed McGee to score. Carreker then scored on
Ava Maxwell's groundout to relief pitcher XXXXX Pippin and, after
Alli Eidson walked, another Thomas error on
Emma Humphrey's infield grounder allowed Gore to score and cut the lead to 4-3. But Pippin got a fly ball for the third out, ending the threat and the game.
The Fillies totaled six hits as second baseman McGee had half of those. Freshman
Tess Rollins went the distance on the mound, allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out five.
Game Two was never in doubt as Thomas pitcher XXXX Herrera dominated, getting the shutout win by allowing only four hits and striking out four. Humphrey, McGee,
Kendall Fowler, and
Ava Roland had one hit each for ABAC while starter
Anna Hutchison was tagged for the loss. The Night Hawks scored four runs each in the second and fifth innings.
The Fillies are now 5-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play. They will be back on the road next weekend, playing doubleheaders at Mobile University on Friday and at William Carey in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Saturday. The Night Hawks are 13-10 overall and 4-2 in league play.
